PRT driverless car

Electric, autonomous airport transfer pods (Heathrow)

Nearly 1.3 million people in the world die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. And if that is not bad enough, road crashes are the leading cause of death among young people ages 15-29. – www.asirt.org This has to stop. Are not there ways to make the road safer? Maybe there is a solution. Ultra provides environmentally sustainable 21t century transport solutions.

Traveling automatically

The Ultra personal rapid transit (PRT) is a new and innovative on-demand system for developed or urban environments. The personal rapid transit (PRT) is a driverless car which is already bringing passengers from their people-driven cars to the terminal on London its main airport. Traveling up to 25 mph (40 kph), the automatic pods promise a comfortable journey for four passengers and their bags by doing away with long queues, fixed timetables, waiting time and shared travel space. With the central computing system in place, the passengers can chose their terminal by their own. If you are ready to go you only have to press ‘start’ and then the electric-power pod will bring you and the other passengers to the chosen terminal. They don not require a special railway or magnetic field, they just use lines for optical navigation. The Ultra personal pod cars are fully automated battery-powered pods and while they wait for new passengers, they will recharge themselves at battery points.

Regular roads

According to the the New York Times, the Ultra personal pod cars ave not been in any accidents. So I think this will be the car of the future cities. And the best part is that it probably already is possible to use these driverless cars on regular roads. With a customizable guideway system they easily could adapt to the regular roads. These Ultra personal pods could be an easy way to integrate driverless vehicles into commuters’ lives.  I see a future city with an accident free environment full of driverless cars.

Quality of Life

With the advent of the driverless cars the mobility of passengers is increased at the airport. Their mood will be positive because now the crowds and waiting for the bus can be avoided. It also will build confidence with the airport because it regulates everything so well for the travelers.
